Half-day clipping lesson - 3 hour session
Melody envisions a happy-horse happy-people motto with horses and owners are working in sync. She offers tailored tuition for owners who want to learn to more about the clipping process and potentially learn to clip for themselves, as a long term solution when it comes to clipping. Tuition is given via one-to-one sessions. Tuition is available to people who would like to work either on their own horse, or a horse that is provided (limited availability applies on lessons where horses are provided, first come first served basis).
During this lesson you will shadow me working and learn key aspects for successful traditional clipping. This includes how to assemble self tensioned blades and working with pre tensioned blades. You will have the opportunity to learn about & use the equipment. In this session you will get familiar with changing blades and working practice of the equipment as well as techniques on handling horses that are crucial for successful clipping- particularly when it comes to nervous and young horses. Do you have a horse that has a specific health complaint such as cushings? The horse barber will teach you the best approach for long term management of cushings coats. Showing and require a flawless finish? Learn how to eliminate clip lines through technique and choosing the correct equipment to suit your horses coat type. If you are feeling up for the challenge and you are in your waterproofs, you will be clipping too! Learn about best practice for clipping horses with traditional values of horsemanship and knowledge of equines applied throughout. The following day you will receive written communication in the form of a feedback email with pointers for your personal technique, as well as information on the equipment recommended for yourself.
The aim is to teach you to competently work with your horse and identify the best specific approach for your horse, giving you the freedom to maintain a tidy clipped horse as much as you need throughout the year, whether it is once a year or several times as some horses require. Avoid putting your horse through a bad experience with incompetent clippers, by learning how to work with him yourself, furthering your bond with your best friend.
You can also learn additional techniques for blending feathers for mountain and moorland types if this is applicable to you. One to one half day tuition : £85
Lessons are restricted to a maximum of 2 people at any one session. If you would like to book a second person on for example mother/daughter or father/son share there is a supplement of £65 for a lesson for two, if booked at the same time.
Melody can also be booked for features and demonstrations at events nationally and internationally.
